As defined by the BC sportfishing regulations: "foul hook" means to hook a fish in any part of the body other than the mouth.

Section 10(2) of the BC sportfishing regulations states "No person who accidentally foul hooks a fish in a lake or stream shall retain the fish."

Since some of seem so open to interpreting the law.... If a fish is "hooked so deep that you can't even see the hook" would that be hooked in the mouth??? Or does said fish fall under the category of foul hooked (in the throat, gills, stomach etc)??

If the fish is hooked in the guts it obviously bit at the bait and is fair hooked. Its not an accident that the fish swallowed a hook.

"Its not an accident that the fish swallowed a hook."

yes the fish swallowed the bait on purpose.

fair enough, but was it intentional or accidental to hook it in the gut??

still doesn't answer the question of whether or not the gut can be defined as the mouth....

"No person who accidentally foul hooks a fish in a lake or stream shall retain the fish...."

Does that mean if you foul hook a fish on purpose you may retain it???

The point I'm making is the regulations can be taken to have many meanings.

Reffering to the "wasted" coho in the "Great day on the upper stamp" thread....If your twisted enough you can justify anything as legal or illegal, moral or immoral.

Interpreting the regs one could say hooking in the gut is considered foul hooked, and the fish must be released.

My opinion is if your fishing a single egg on a size 4 hook then your asking to have the fish hooked in the gut. Not a very ethical tactic for catch and release....

It is illegal to wilfully foul hook or attempt to foul hook any fish other than herring, northern anchovy, Pacific sand lance and squid

The body is defined as the EXTERIOR there for if a fish swallows the hook it would be a fair hook up.
