Looks like good news for access.

VICTORIA – The Province is investing $356,000 this year to upgrade the Zeballos Forest Service Road and make it safer for all travellers, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today.

“The safety of the Zeballos road is important – especially given it’s the only road that accesses the community,” said Bell. “We can’t resurface and repave all the roads we need to in one year, but we will continue to make incremental improvements to priority roads.”

The road to Zeballos turns off Highway 19 just north of Woss. The 74-kilometre gravel logging road continues past Zeballos to Fair Harbour. Zeballos, with a population of about 200 people, is a popular destination spot for kayakers, sportfishers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Local Ministry of Forests and Range staff will consult with local Zeballos road users to determine the most high priority areas of road to improve. Some sections of road will be reshaped to reduce leans and adjust some poor alignments of the road and then resurfaced. The plan for this year is to crush over 30,000 cubic metres of gravel, which will then be applied over the 15 to 20 kilometres of the worst sections of the road. Work will be completed in phases over the next two years.

Cheers
