I've been using Seaguar Fluorocarbon leader for years. Is there another brand out there that is as good?
Thanks

I think it depends on what your using it for. For certain when using light leaders 4 to 12 lbs not all these products are the same. I could not tell you what is the better in the higher lbs test but I have heard that the yo-suri pink stuff is some of the best from friends who fish tuna in the tropics but its pricy. I have been using Sufix and maxima for salmon and tuna with no issues but I don't think the salmon or tuna here really care differently for mono or floor. For me its mainly a trout application. And in the salt chuck I like that it is resistant to abrasion.

Birdsnest,
I mainly use 30 and 40 for salmon leaders. I find the Seaguar quit stiff compared to mono. However, it stands up very well. Im just looking for options.
Thanks for the info

The Seaguar & Superstar have been the best for me...been having so good results with the suffix as well.....:D

Seaguar Salmon floro is some wicked stuff. 30lb for leaders. Palomar knot. Haven't broken/snapped a leader yet *knocks on wood*. Super abrasion resistant. I went a whole trip lake trout fishing, massive fish, never broke a leader. Re-tied it after 3 days, didn't think I had to but did just in case.

Have some P-line (CFX I think it's called?) for 60lb hali/toothy buggers. Holy crap it is some stiff stuff. Good luck cutting that I think I'd have an easier time wrecking a cable leader! Tied some hootchies with it too.

Never using mono leaders again. Had great success with the salmon floro leader! Mono is so fragile in comparison. Just take care with your knots (palomar when I can)

I don't know if Superstar is actually in the same boat as Seaquar but it does work for a fraction of the cost. I have been using Superstar for over 4 years now as my main leader material with great results. We have so many spools of different poundage's etc. on board it's not funny. The stuff works and the price is right. You can find it at Pacific Net and Twine. I have not seen it anywhere else.

Not to derail thread, but I only tie uni knot for my Fluoro. I've had multiple breaks using Palomar. I always tie a Palomar tying hardware to my braided lines, with never a problem. Fluoro I've lost several fish at the knot. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I doubt it. I almost gave up on Fluor it was getting so bad till I tried the uni knot.

What brand and size were you using? The reason i ask is because all Ive ever used with Seaguar is a palomar knot and no issues?
Thanks
Stosh

What I've heard many times is that some brands of floro can be very abrasive when you tie the knot. Chafing on itself can cause it to break. When I tie a palomar knot with it I am usually very careful to make sure it is tied perfectly with no twists or extra loops. Gotta use some saliva lol

All hearsay, please correct me if I am wrong about the abrasiveness. Maybe the older stuff was more of an issue. Never had a problem but only been using it for a year or two myself

Well, after reading all the info, maybe I will stick with Seaguar (the Devil I know). It is expensive, but seems to work fine with palomar knots.

Which Seaguar are you using? Blue Label or Red Label. I have used the Yo-Zuri Pink in 10, 12, 20 and 30. It is ultra supple and ties easily. Its about as high quality that I've used. Its a bit harder to find so I find myself using the Seaguar Blue Label now more often. I would never trust a fish of a lifetime to mono or crappy hooks. For hooks I only use Owner or Trokar...

Sorry for the late reply. I use Berkley ProSpec fluorocarbon. I also heard that the abrasive nature of Fluoro causes it to cut into itself. Like someone else said, careful not to add extra loops or twists, especially with a Palomar. Simple knot but many chances to loop or twist line. Uni knot is idiot proof, which is why I like it!:)
