Flat lander family wants to Salmon fish

I do have a new 18' Thunderjet, 115 main & 9.9 kicker, 10' rods and mooching reels, downriggers and electronics we use at Kootenay lake. Looking to come out the first week of Sept and wondered where would be a decient place to stay and moor our boat, Salmon Point?...

You need to be very careful where you choose-a lot of places the salmon fishing is over-for all intensive purposes and in other areas still pretty good.

Hmm, generally in the first week of September im fishing trout waiting patiently for the Coho to start turning up off Saratoga beach... but if I had to find salmon and money wasnt a problem, you'd probably find me in Port Alberni going after the springs staging getting ready to go up the river.

Salmon Point is good but Pacific Playgrounds has camping moorage and cabins it is on the oyster river for swimming and has nice sandy ocean beach also is clean but has no gas there are resorts down the road within walking distance and walking trails through Oyster River Park to Salmon Point they are next to each other. Closest to Kitty Coleman and Miracle Beach and close to Quadra Cortes Hernado Savary Islands at the north end of Georgia Straight.

Spring Fever makes a very good point. I haven't been at this long enough to even offer an opinion as to where there is good fishing at that time of the year but hopefully some of the others here will chime in. There are many places on both the east and west coast of the Island where your boat would do just fine and where there is decent accommodation and moorage options.

Quite a bit of the Campbell River fishing moves north of town that time of the year. Salmon Point is more "wife and kid" friendly, but look at trailering you boat to Browns Bay for a day or two of fishing. This is a "pink" year and there are usually a bunch going through the first week of Sept. Fishing in the Campbell River for pinks should be good then also. Browns Bay is a great place to stay, but a bit more "out of town" than Salmon Point.

Not this year as it will be closed due to poor returns

Resort boats from Campbell River fish north at that time of year.Deepwater and Greensea Bay areas.Moorage in CR or Browns Bay.Either run up in the boat from CR or drive to BB by vehicle.Find the guide boats and fish.Few Chinook,Coho,Pinks and maybe an early Chum.Tyee Marine or River Sportsman can advise on gear and or bait.

Very interesting points, I was consider CR as I have family in CV but if we travel that far they can come visit us as we like to fish. We would rather be where the fishing is for sure. Thanks and keep the input coming!

Thanks Bear!

So the I understand north of CR is more active at that time of year so what about WVCI? Would Port Alberni do or go even further west in Barkely Sound or north west to Nootka?
