Fishing south end of Cowichan Lake

Only had 1 chance to get down so far. Went on Sunday and it was pretty windy for my 10 footer, so tried Honeymoon Bay and Bald Mt. Would have loved the chance to run for some of the creek mouths, but couldn't do it. I'm open for any suggestions on where to try.

I launch my 24' Striper at Mesachie lake. If heading towards honeymoon bay you will see a corner store at mesachie lake ( just befoe the baseball diamond) turn right and follow it down to the ramp. It is a nice ramp and dock. Although some bushes are getting to where they need to to be trimmed back. The ramp is a little on the slanted side as well. None the less My boat is big and goes in just fine. The mouth of bear creek is trechorous with logs and debris. Trim your motor up and go through slowly and follow the channel out to the lake. There is plenty of water now and you should not have any troubles. Just keep your eye on the sonar. I do it all summer and is just fine. Honeymoon bay, Gordon Bay, Goat island the channel, all gooooood places for fish. Lots of creeks around and you don't have to go far for action. Another alternative is the launch in Youbou. From there it is a short distance to Shaw creek , cottonwood. Or go staright to Heather campsite and again it is a short distance to Haws bay for some more great fishing .

Good Luck

Thanks for the tips and insight gentlemen! Nice you are willing to part with a little local knowledge. Once I get on the lake, I'll hoist a beer in your honor.;)

Highlights, when you refer to the channel, do you mean the canal between Cowichan and Bear Lake??

Nope, although fish will migrate through that narrow channel into Bear lake at certain times of the year.

I was referring to what many refer to as the "narrows". As you are leaving Gordon bay and heading towards Youbou.

There are better spots than getting caught up in there but it will yeild some nice ones from time to time.

I just wanted to thank you guys for your insite on Cowichan Lake. I managed to get down on Saturday and had a pretty good time. Unfortunatly we couldn't get any fish all the way to the boat for various reasons (some embarrassing LOL) but wanted to try again reel soon. I'm thinking of taking the little 10 foot boat down and try the Cottonwood Creek area. A I'll probably be alone and we had most of our bites in this area,I would like to launch out of Youbou or nearby if possible. Anyone know of public ramps in that area??

We are planning an overnighter this weekend midway up the lake. any reports on whether the lake is freezing over in the bays or your thoughts on this. There are a few of us planning this (annual event) and we're looking for some insight.

thanks!
