Hi i am a newbie to the island learning the ropes...
I was wondering if there are any reports in Campbell river area on Halibut?
Also any good places to soak prawn and crab pots?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard straycat.. Good place to start for info is here: http://www.tyeemarine.com/ Go into the site and look up the fishing report page. As far as butts-- I have not heard of any so far this season--- but the hump gives up a few each spring. Further up, at Kelsey bay its a good bet too. Check out the Ardent Angler column for info as well in the Courier - Islander.

Hey Straycat, welcome aboard. I just moved to CR last summer so it's always good to see another local join up. I haven't had a lot of chances to hit the chuck here but if you ever want to get together just PM me here at the site. Always looking for more fishing buddies.

Again welcome to the site.

Lots of opportunities for prawn & crab at this time of year, you can usually get a meal of prawns on the SE side of quadra 300-350'. Crab, I try and am still looking for a productive site - I've been told the North end of Hernando can produce, but never has for me. I've also heard of a few halibut taken at the hump, but it usually on salmon gear, bouncing bottom. Seems to be only a few caught a year. Best to go north of Sayward. Welcome to the site.

menzies bay can be good for crabbing but you run the risk of having your traps dragged out by log booms. Like Lawman says Fransico Pt is usually good this time of year for prawns. I heard of a 35 lb Hali caught last Sunday somewhere around the hump. Exact locations are guarded better than any government secrets. Not even Wikileaks would find them. LOL I caught a 15 pounder last winter while fishing for springs so you never know what will happen out there.

Crabbing and prawning off of Savary can be decent at times, depending what the commies are doing at the time. Last time I was out there looked to be a commercial string set for crab.

I have heard of the crabbing around hernado but never caught any myself, although I did see a persons haul of crabs even got the location. Tried it a second time and the trap was heavy, all excited and hauled in two huge sunfish.
