Fire Fighting Foam Spilled Into Stoney Creek

The local fire department was refilling one of its trucks with foam mix and didnt realize the cap was off the other side of the truck. Allegedly, 5 barrels of this toxic stuff went into the storm drain and straight into Stoney creek. This creek has hatchery supported coho along with chum, cutthroat, rainbow, and other fish species. The creek flows through an amazing off leash dog park. dogs and kids play in this creek daily. Vigilant citizens reported this spill nearly immediately, but it took 48 hours for the city to make an announcement, and 3 days before any spill response was implemented. Everything in the creek is dead and some park users were left with chemical burns. who knows how many dogs may have drank the water and what the long term effects of that will be.

News article does not even mention any accountability. Nothing to see move along. What a joke. Should be a huge fine and money sent to creek enhancement efforts.

something like this should do

Dang. I did a coho smolt enumeration project there way back in 2000. It's a beauty little creek, and the system was starting to see fish comeback with all their enhancement efforts.
