Feds promise $5.3M for 3 marine restoration groups on Vancouver Island

"The funding, announced Monday, is going to the Pacheedaht First Nation, the Guardians of Our Salish Estuaries and the Raincoast Conservation Foundation for work taking place both on the Island and the mainland.

Ottawa is sending the Pacheedaht First Nation just over $2.3 million over the next three years to restore three sites in the Gordon River and San Juan River estuaries near Port Renfrew.

Meanwhile, the Mid-Island based Our Salish Estuaries group is set to receive $435,000 over three years to “transform future salt marsh restoration efforts by modifying traditional fish trap techniques to restore and protect productive sedge marsh habitats,” according to the federal government.

Lastly, the Raincoast Conservation Foundation – which has offices in Sidney and a research lab at the University of Victoria – is receiving $2.62 million over three years to monitor and restore habitat along the Lower Fraser River and estuary."

Meanwhile incompetent and corrupt DFO wants to shut down the Sooke Chinook Sea Pen project!!! 🤬🤯😖😱😳

Unless you are a FN or NGO, good luck trying to find any support from DFO. They are just another corrupt incompetent political arm of govt. They need to be gutted and replaced!!!

Ask me if am am pissed about this!!! Members of the public fishery sector will have to fight hard to change this unscrupulous decision!

Musk says major fraud source in government-funded NGOs

What they're saying:

"This, by the way, is, I think, one of the biggest sources of fraud in the world, is government-funded nongovernmental organizations," Musk said.

"This is a gigantic fraud loophole where the government can give money to an NGO, and then there are no controls over that NGO," he continued.

"So, they have given billions of dollars. In fact, we estimate tens of billions of dollars to NGOs that are essentially scams," Musk added.

The billionaire entrepreneur suggested that $500 billion to $700 billion in waste needed to be cut, according to the Associated Press.

According to the AP, Musk’s estimate of fraud in entitlements significantly exceeds figures provided by watchdogs such as Social Security’s inspector general, who previously reported $71.8 billion in improper payments from fiscal years 2015 through 2022.

Last time I fished the San Juan I did see significant willow plantings on bars on the mid sections of the river. Don't know if they got blown out during the next flood. Until the raped hillsides up river can be stabilized to hold their water, I suspect much of the efforts are sadly fruitless.
