"The funding, announced Monday, is going to the Pacheedaht First Nation, the Guardians of Our Salish Estuaries and the Raincoast Conservation Foundation for work taking place both on the Island and the mainland.
Ottawa is sending the
Pacheedaht First Nation just over $2.3 million over the next three years to restore three sites in the Gordon River and San Juan River estuaries near Port Renfrew.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Island based
Our Salish Estuaries group is set to receive $435,000 over three years to “transform future salt marsh restoration efforts by modifying traditional fish trap techniques to restore and protect productive sedge marsh habitats,” according to the federal government.
Lastly, the
Raincoast Conservation Foundation – which has offices in Sidney and a research lab at the University of Victoria – is receiving $2.62 million over three years to monitor and restore habitat along the Lower Fraser River and estuary."
