F/N FISHING ON THE COWICHAN RIVER OCT 23/09

I am in a debate with a few of my fishing buddies, please can someone clear up the issue on the Cowichan River, we were driving around from the lower end of the cowichan to the top end and we saw f/n fishing in many of the spots that are closed, also none of them had a fly rod etc? So what is the rule of thumb here,what's the DFO position now, because when questioned about the same things regarding the pinks and spearing off the brides it seems everybody points their fingers the other way.

Pappa..conservation is supposed to have priority over anyones right to fish. When the Cowichan is down to a measly few hundred Chinook I think it is time for DFO to act on that mandate and shut it down for everyone.

POPPA..... apparently after speaking to lady DFO natives have to fish legal as we do according to her and the FN Band.[?]

hey I'm not saying its right or that I like it.The fact is, nobody is going to go down and tell the natives they can't fish in a certain place and they can't fish a certain way.
