IFL,, belive that I live just north of you a few blocks, know how you are feeling. Blew my merc last fall and still looking for a good deal on a newer to me, outboard for my whaler. Hope you can get yours fixed soon. Tight lines,..........BB

If it is just head gasket, kits are about $350 plus about $600 labor. You may want to send the heads out and get them planed at about $200 per head. If the motor is worth it.

Dont feel too bad IFL,you arent alone.I've had to rip up my floor because of rotten wood(or really because of a hack job on the fibreglass).Devoting all of my time now to fixing it by the end of August.
This lack of fishing is killing me!:(

Fortunately labors free, I happen to be a boat mechanic. Parts are about 300- 350$. Im towing it home on thurs.,hope to have it back up and running by Sunday afternoon. Tha flat rate for one head gasket is 9hrs. The Japanese ususlly under estimate this time by about 25%. I think I can do it realistically in 12hrs. Head planing? only if its warped, its never been overheated so I dont expect that to be an issue. The powerheads gotta come off to remove a head on these units. I hate being forced to work on my own crap...:(
