Elk Lake Fishing Curtailed with Rowing Expansion

Just heard that Saanich Council has given the Victoria Rowing
Society a $250,000 interest free loan to assist them with their
clubhouse expansion which is now under construction at Eagle
Beach. Do you know that Gary Lunn gave them a $1.1 million
infrastructure grant last fall which has to be used by March 31,
2011. I wonder how long we will be allowed to fish the lake
what with the increased rowing activity and regattas which will
inevitably occur. Virtually all of the reported incidents (ie.
accidents and near misses) involve rowers colliding with or
narrowly missing other recreational lake users - mostly anglers!

the more people fishing the lake the bettereventually the university type rowers will manage to get complete controli believe sad as that isthat is room on that lake for allbut they want it all, more derbies for kids mabepossibly a shore fishing derbyget the lake popular for kids to use and learn, another disabled wharf and a derby for them also, there,if the lake is used a lot by kids and disabled mabe there will be political monies for them alsoanybody who uses elk lake should get out there including myselfwould be a shame to lose it to the rowersbut they seem to know how the p olitics work

Or just ground bait with berrie treasure....[^]

ITS OUR PASSION TO FISH AND GET OUT OF DOORS...PLEASE...FISH LEGAL OR GET OFF THE RIVER!

This has been a long time coming - the environmental assessment was done a couple of years ago. Sport fishing was a minor mention in the report.

Catch and release -- into my frying pan.
