Sounds interesting enough but I bet it would be cost prohibitive for most. Until it becomes more common and pricing would then most likely come down. It will be interesting to see if anyone has any personal knowledge of this technology.

Conventional Submarines have been doing this for years. I personally think it would be costly and take up a lot of space ( main engine, electric motors and battery banks).

a little of topic, but are bc ferries electric prop driven with deisel generating power?soon to be LNG producing power?

Wouldn't be surprised, Diesel Electric has been in limited use since the early 1900's. Its far from a new innovation. The idea of adding a bank of batteries was never really used on surface ships, due to cost and space, but was common with submarines which use their main engines to propel them on the surface and charge their batteries for propulsion use when submerged! I suspect that batteries have come a long way, but you would still need a pretty big bank to propel a vessel of any size at a reasonable speed.
