Good for you!! BTW, could you transcribe some of their reactions for general amusement of the audience? :D

LC, if you know some good grounds overthere, why don't you tell those charter guys about it and they will leave us maybe alone forever?

Cause they'll be back in a week once they've pounded the hell out of them. Burn some fuel, look at a chart, don't just follow the radar blips.... It's hard to prospect in the unlikeley event they GET openeings down there.

Besides, who wold want to wreck something that the odd guy I know sneaks across to at 5:00AM if they want a quick easy day.

DFO, COAST GUARD EVEN THE CANADAIN NAVY SHOULD BE OUT THERE EVERY DAY THIS SEASON PROTECTING WHAT IS OURS.....OTHERWISE THIS WHOLE THING IS A JOKE......

Anyone mind filling in a non-charter guy? What is this e-licence change?

Thanks.

No more E-licenses for the Swiftsure/LaPerouse bank area of Vancouver Island unless you are Canadian. The problem for the US guys is now they have to find some way to get their clients into Canada and back with paper licneses before they take them out. So if they are running out of, say, LaPush, they are going to have some logistics problems. Untill someone gets the bright idea of a Canadian mailing address, a Canadian Buddy, and ordering some Canadian license books to have on board their vessel (What I would do if I were them).

The truth is...most of those charter operators had to see this coming...sooner or later

not one of them knew anything about it.....
As I noted on another thread, if it effects your buisness, then you should be up to date.

thats not possible unless you go through some very stringent steps and steps are been taken to tighten that up as well.....DFO should make some sort of license stipulation that no hard copy license can be issued in Canada then used in the the US

That would be hard to do, if some guy with a WN boat comes up for a weekend in Bamfield, how would you differentiate from some guy who ran over from Neah Bay? Unless you provide a document to them that they would get from Canada Customs, indicating when and where they will be fishing maybe?

Its quite obvious that the vessels we are talking about are coming into our waters then leaving without checking in with Canadian Customs as they are supposed to when doing anything other than transversing our waters. We know were they are fishing, if they have hard copy licenses on board then the simple change to the licensing structure would be easy to enforce.

As for any sporty fishing in Bamfield they are required to check in as well. As long as they abide by OUR rules thats fine.

Any sport caught fish landed by an American vessel should have to be accounted for on Canadian soil. No matter where it is caught...The onus should be put on the non-resident angler to abide by OUR RULES, close the loop holes now so the cat and mouse game of non resident anglers trying to constantly find ways to skirt the system stops, remember we are the ones paying the price for our government failing to control something they have had full knowledge of for years and years....Making the Neah Bay and La Push charter operators jump through as many hoops as possible is something we shouild all be asking our government to do NOW

Spoke to a customs officer at the Victoria boat show today about the issue. I was informed they had ONE boat stationed in Vancouver, even had a picture of it, and they were aware of the boats coming across the straight, and said they relied on the American authorities and the Canadian Coast guard to police the coast. He had said they are to check in with customs when they come over and stop in as required, but probably don't. He said they would sieze their boats if they violated canadian customs law, but they do not have the resources to do the job and I should write a letter to my MP to urge them to give them the boats and manpower etc.

Before I stopped at the Customs booth I spoke to some fisheries officers at their booth. I asked them why they allowed americans to purchase ANY E licenses and that wouldn"t the American guides who can no longer fish swiftsure with E licenses just fish elsewhere with E licenses? The response was that they couldn't DISCRIMINATE agaist non residences by not allowing the sale of E Licenses and that the cost for NEAH Bay Guides to go to other Canadian waters to fish with E licenses was to high. Wanna Bet?

I reseached this a few years ago. My understanding is that as long as you don't make land or anchor you do not have to go through customs. That works for both borders. If Canadian is running down the US coast they would not have to clear customs until they made port. I do run from Neah Bay and fish the Canidian waters and run back maybe 10 times a year. I wish the customs would put in an office in Reny I would much rather come over and stay for a few days than run back and forth. I just hate to spend $400 on a ferry ride to go fishing for a weekend. It use to be a bit easier with Canpass but 911 kind put an end to that.
