Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report - July 18, 2005

Hello everyone and welcome to the second fishing report of the summer. If you are getting this report by mistake please let me know and I will remove your address.

Well we have a new leader in the Duval Point Lodge Fishing Derby, Jo-Anne Slaughter, of Lake Stevens, Washington, is now in the lead with a 40-lb Chinook. Jo-Anne also bought a ticket in the Filomi Day’s Fishing Derby held every year in Port Hardy and won the top fish for the week. With winning this prize came $1000 worth of cash and prizes. Way to go Jo-Anne. Jo-Anne’s husband, Al Slaughter also managed to hook into a nice Chinook 34lbs. and claim one of our coveted “Over 30-lb Club” hats. Besides going home with these 2 nice fish Jo-Anne and Al managed to go home with their limit of Chinook and Coho.

We are seeing loads of Chinook in the 20-30 lb class

We are now seeing some nice size Coho starting to show up into the 12-lb. range. The pinks are now starting to show up in more numbers too.

The hot spots the past week have again been Duval Island or Castle Point on the Deserter Group. Trolling a cut plug herring or anchovies between 40 and 70 feet have been very effective.

The halibut fishing last week was very good with Keith Chadwick of Boise hooking into a 106 lb monster behind Duncan Is. Darbie Doerge, of Bothell, WA. and his fishing partner Pat Burdick of Ephrata, WA arranged for a day of halibut fishing with our guides and were not disappointed maybe a little wore out though. They caught their limit of halibut and the largest was 89 lbs. If anyone wants to arrange a day of guided fishing please do it a head of time as our guides get quite busy. The cost is $750 Cdn. or approx. $635 US. this is based on 8 hours of fishing.

The humpback whales but on a show for everyone the past week at the lodge. We could sit on the dock and watch them breach. There was reports everyday from guests at the lodge seeing them. There was also the occasional sighting of killer whales.

We have had a couple of cancellations the end of July and the first week of Aug, the spot is very small 2-3 guests only. We have discounted the price $200 per person.

Till Next Week
