I did try to search for the answer but does not look like it is talked about.

##Correct me when Im wrong please##

From what I have been told there are two differnt types
50khz and 200khz

50khz reads more area around the boat? and 200khz is more what is right under the boat?

what khz do you guys mostly run? do you switch ? maybe they show on differnt screens Im wondering if my dual is needed mine has kicked the bucket lms-335c.

I cant believe they are worth 160+ to buy

Mine is 83khz and 200khz, you can run a split screen
or one or the other.
One delivers 60d beam the other 20d for better clarity
It is a matrix 17 humminbird.

Here are some of the differences.

50mhz:
- usually have narrower beam angles as used for deeper salt water use
- lower frequency with better overall penetration so it is better for deeper water (i.e. over 200 ft.)
- overall works better in salt water (less refraction and interference)

200mhz:
- usually have wider beam angles as used in shallower, fresh water
- better at reading bottom at faster speeds
- faster frequency with less overall penetration power that is better for shallower, fresh water

Long story short. If you want to see actual fish arches (i.e. real fish, not stupid interpreted fish symbols, get a multi-frequency sounder (e.g 50/200 mhz) if you fish deep and/or in salt water. Hopes this helps.

Saltybeaver what are you runing for electronic??
Talk to me on kill fish
