Draconian Response from DFO

The fellow who tossed a seal bomb at a herd of sea lions who were staging, awaiting the set of the rig's net, did nothing that hasn't been done countless thousands of times on our West Coast. Recognized as a non-lethal deterrent, DFO actually handed these things out and promoted their use for decades.

Time have apparently changed...

Although no sea lions were injured in this action, DFO decided to charge the fellow anyway. They are demanding a $ 10,000.00 fine, and a ban from commercial fishing for three years. Insanity at it's finest! This, for doing exactly what DFO itself promoted.

Government over-reach and over-reaction - catering to the whines of the anti's yet again. ZERO common sense, and they now want to strip this man's livelihood away?

Whomever advised for those charges should be immediately fired.
At a time when there is a growing mistrust of DFO on our coast, you'd think they'd put a little more thought towards any action that further promotes that!

almost Every fish farm has a electricfide peditor net around the net pens ,hurting or damaging seals everyday.Remember a fed bear /seal is a dead bear/seal.stop baiting wildlife to hurt or kill themselfves.say no to CnR,and yes to keep your one fish for the day.think about this the next time you lose a fish to a seal.
 
Interesting Proposal my Friend. Despite a rather detailed search I can find nothing on the noted Society.
Care to share what you know and where that came from?

Yeah. Right.

The original Board still exists. In fact, there are now more FN Members than when it was initiated.
Their IFMP is still in the foot-dragging DFO's hands, but there has been some progress.

Tom continues to march to his own drummer, making a host of out-there posts in this regard on Facebook and elsewhere.
There very much was a reason he was terminated. And he continues to show that in his posts frequently.

The matter is still being steered by the likes of Dr. Carl Walters etc.
