Downrigger belt riding up when dropping the cannon ball

I was on a friends boat the other day. When dropping the ball down the belt would ride up on the small pully after the main drum. This would bring it to a sudden halt.
He took it into both tackle shops here in town and they changed out just about everything.. seems to be still doing it, but it has not been water tested yet.

One shop said to send it down to scotty but don't have the time to do that right now.

Any thoughts?

Mine do that. Scotty said to send them in. Gone fishing did a repair that seems to be working. I the mean time Scotty sent me some spare belts.

Mine wouldn't let the balls free fall had to pull the line by hand gone fishing adjusted the second bolt down under the wrench my belt kept slipping off if you need to still use them slip the belt off to the side lower them and then put the belt back on, this works temporarily so you can keep fishing if needed

There was a batch I understand that went out with the small wheel upside down.

Roofus put a 9/16 wrench in your tackle bag.

Adjusting the brake in a normal thing to have to do. Always good to learn how to take apart your rigger so when something goes wrong you can fix it while on the water.

Wrench is on the boat now watched them adjust my friend has the belt jam thing ill tell him about it mine I think was a brake to tight, the smallest wheel could be upside down?

Roofus et all: I had one of my riggers with the faulty small pulley which allowed the belt to ride up and sometimes come off. The pulley had the lip on the bottom not the top of it. They cannot be just flipped over - you need a replacement pulley. Mine was done free at Island Outfitters when Bill was there three years ago I believe.
