Down rigger Gottcha

Fishing Kitty hump yesterday with "she who must be obeyed" so of course I'm working both riggers -noticed that the left rigger was slow to descend-really looked at it and noticed the end pulley was only rotating some of the time. Pulled the pulley apart(yes Virginia they do come apart)
-what a mess-copper bushings in there very corroded-easily cleaned up greased etc. But nobody to my knowledge has ever done this on the many times it has been serviced. Check your pulleys -hard to see but you may be surprised!!

To funny I just had this problem my self last week at Kitty. Completely green copper bushings. I cleaned it up with my over priced hook file then used a tad of the extra grease hanging off my kicker to lube it up. I know you are not the grease Scotty products but I did....:) Asked both Courtenay sporting good stores about warranty and was told no but when I called Scotty they couriered me two new pulleys the next day.

Would this also slow things down coming back up?

Yes I'm sure it would and more importantly might start grooving your pulley- Now we wouldn't want a grooved pulley would we? LOL

While we're on the subject of downriggers.......I tried adjusting the rod holder brackets on my booms to a better angle.....loosened off both screws and tried gently prying it with a flatblade screwdriver very gently...I had it loose all the way around but it refused to move.

Is there something in there that "locks" it in place like a tab or something?

Don't mean to derail thread though.......

There is a small plastic tab on the inside of the bracket that fits into a mating slot in the boom. Keeps the holder aligned with the boom.
