Df 300 question

Question to the pros, fire up the motor today after a 6 month sleep, winterize in oct, started up right away all seem fine, 15 min in overheat alarm, shut it off and flushed it with the flush port for 1/2 hr, motor cooled down, fire it up again and no overheat after that, got it running 3 -4 times during the day and no overheat alarm after that. Only put about 30-40 hrs on it last year, never overheated, will change the thermostat next weekend , hope it was just thermostat failing to open from sitting all winter

I remember that happening with a df175 years ago, iirc I was using one of the hose ports that’s not designed to have the motor run on, it’s just for flushing while engine is off. Went back to ears while flushing after that, so I can’t remember which flush port is for just for flushing and which one you can run the engine on too. The manual will likely have the details. Other than that maybe just an airlock if that’s possible?

Did a quick search, apparently both hose ports are for flushing with engine off only. Need ears if you want to run while flushing. It kinda makes sense just for impeller purposes really. Sending water from the powerhead down is likely working against the impeller and might not be the best for it while running.

I
Did you fire it up on a hose or in the water?
n a large tub with a hose feeding water, did not run the engine with the hose on the flush port, I know those are just for flushing lol. I am thinking thermostat would not open, will change the thermostat and see I guess, was going to skip that because only had 30-40 hrs on it since new thermostat, impeller is new from last year too and pumping water as it should

Brutus - before buying a new thermostat, try soaking it in a container of vinegar. Seen it free up thermostats a couple of times. In fact last weekend used vinegar to free up a pencil zinc that had broken off up in the heat exchanger on my 5.9BTA. Hope it works. Ted

typical salted thermostat.. most likely absolutely fine now.
Yes it is lol, pulled them off this morning and cleaned them, looked new, tested in hot water open and closed fine, put them back on and all seems fine now, now I can fix whatever need fixing on that piece of crap money pit 😂😂. Did a salt away flush at the end of season before winter and amazing how much salt residue is in the tub right now, wonder how much is still stuck in there
