In the oak bay area, there are many of what i am assuming are derelict sport and commercial traps with the floats and lines covered in algae. Who governs these waters? Im assuming its more complicated than pulling the ugly ones out and dumping them.

Crazy,

i don't think those are derelict traps but rather commercial pots.
you can usually tell by the heavy rope, and floats have numbers
cut in .
They live there year round and are therefore covered in growth.

Thought I had a halibut of a lifetime two years ago at Swiftsure.Turned out to be a 6 foot chunk of net.Not impressed!
I'd definitely sign up as a volunteer to help out.Sidney channel must be littered with old traps along with other items-you should see the garbage under Sidney and James island wharfs

Hooch
