Decent jigging rod and reel...?

I am starting from scratch with all my gear and have put together my salmon setups and I am now looking for a decent jigging rod. I am mostly going to be around the Nanaimo area and towards crofton. I am looking to spend anywhere from $40-$80 for the rod. I am looking for a good all round rod that is not too bulky and is good for rock fish and can handle a decent size hali if I get into one.

The link below shows the RSC rapala series and if you go to the left then click on the speed jigging series there is one that is listed as a 5'8 length with 80-200lbs line rating. It seems to be over kill but I looked at the rod and it is super light and virtually indestructible. It is very similar to the Trevala from shimano in appearance. but is only around $75.00. Anyone seen these or have any experience with them? Any other good recommendations for rods would be greatly appreciated. Also any decent but cheapish level wind reels that would be good for hali/rockfish would would also be helpful.

Here is the link for the Rapala http://www.rapala.ca/products/rapala/rsc2.php

Thanks in advance

You wont get a hali in crofton or nan area (HIGHLY unlikely atleast).
I would be looking at a 7-8' heavy trolling rod for east coast bottom fish, or a light 6' rod such as ugly stick. 5'8 and 80-200 is wayyyyy overkill for east side of the island bottom fish, you want to have a little fun fishing, not just hook and winch them up.
Look at maybe shimano tdr rods. I used one of those for halibut this summer, and landed a 60 halibut with one.

Don't under estimate a big ling in the rocks. Use stout gear. Also, I find that fishing deep you don't want a flexible rod, or the boat motion will show too much and obscure the nibbles if you leave it in the holder baited. My vote is for an ugly stick too. Short, stout and tough. Cheap(ish) too.

I am not sure yet to be honest....I just got my boat a month ago and am new to this other than going on guided trips.

Don't bother with jigging gear for Salmon you want to be trolling not jigging.

With dropping Salmon populations there aren't the numbers of fish concentrated in places to make jigging worth your while especially on the Inside-few people bother jigging anymore.

If it's light tackle bottomfishing you want then look for a 6.5' - 7' Musky rod on the net or Wholesale Sports might have something they are cheap and tough.

Ugly Sticks are just that notorious POFS that break all the time.
