So was out of William Head today looking for some hali's And 2 boats nearly ran over my anchor line between the scotsman and the boat, a distance of only 70 ft [xx(] Scary One boat i was able to radio and say get out of the way. The other i just plain started yelling and waveing.

Another good one was when i got back to cheanuh there was a boat and truck parked across the right side of the launch at the top so nobody else could pull there boat out for over 30 mins [V]

Some people need to learn what they are doing on the water.

Its killing me, yelled at him over the radio on 68 and he heard me, and now i forget the name of the danm boat. Some of you may have heard me around 3:45 ish. bigger boat like 40 footer.

There was no fog at the time.

And no nothing but Doggies, and one 30 pound Skate, that lets just say coulda fooled anyone for a hali [xx(]

My grandfather hit 5 this week 25-77 pounds two of them were at William head, and 3 at Border Bank

was it around 4:30 5:00 pm at cheanuh that the guy was parked across the top ? man i was pissed as i had to come in because wind was pushing exhaust into the boat and wife got sick . my frustration was almost gonna be takin out on the guy but then my wife said ah park infront of him . what a freekin dipstick

tight lines

Ah yes scotty, i was the younger guy getting into the car with my grandfather! I saw you park infront of him, and that was very satisfying :D A little bit of "Ramp Rage" [:p]

Also i had a dream about the boat and anchor line and now remember the boats name was "All's Well" Everyone keep your eyes open!

Ok Steve since your just a young kid and learning, which is good btw way as I see you have passion for the sport which is Great.

They do indeed eat skate its a bit of a hassle to do but not bad what you do is cut off the wings and then get a piece of 1 inch pipe or 1 1/2 pipe and bevel the edges with a grinding wheel so there razor sharp and cut it to about 3 or so inchs long make sure the pipe is very clean.

Get an old piece of plywood lay your shake wings on it and start punching them out with the tool you just make I use a rubber mallet as not to damage the other end of your new punch now you may have to hit it hard depending on the thickness of the cartilage thats in between the wings.

Ok so now you have all these "things" get a sharp knife and you will see skin, meat ,cartilage, meat and then skin so take your knife and remove the skin and cartilage and all you have is just this scallop size piece of skate. cook just like a scallop high heat with a bit of olive oil season, then when there just about done add some butter about a tbsp. flip them in the butter then take them out add a tiny bit of white wine 1/4 cup simmer this mxture of butter and wine down a bit till it thickens a bit and pour the reduction over your "swimming scallops".

Sit back drink the rest of the bottle with your feast.

Good luck Wolf

Just curious, some Skate get pretty large. Do these faux scallops keep well if frozen. Or is it a better eat it all right away kinda deal.

My dad got one near 70 pounds of carmanah last year. might not have been as good eating. But mine was only maybe 25 pounds maybe almost like chicken butts

Thanks so much Wolf! I will remember this!

Sure you CAN eat them, but really guys you have lots of salmon and halibut out there, do we really need to resort to eating sting rays?

If there was a scallop flavoured hali, we wouldn't have to! Hard to make bacon wrapped salmon.

Not sting ray , Skate. Nothing wrong with it's table fare. Very good eating from what I recall. I don't make a habit however because they just seem like such a large docile creature and not as abundent as other species. ....so I pop them off and take what I target.

Confirm Poppa!! I can keep bombers too but I can't see myself bonking one in the next million years. Species like skates and sharks don’t urinate like other fish. They get rid of their urine through their skin. When brought on land, you can therefore smell a very strong scent of ammonium from skates and sharks. MMMMMMM....yummy

I thought the same thing but they dont **** out of the wings (oh oh bad pun)LOL .

tried it up at the lodge and must admit it was pretty darn good and would definattly eat it again we glazed them with water them vacuum sealed them thet keep really well.

Luna is right, sharks and rays do have higher uric acid content in their flesh. If you want to eat shark, skates or rays - keep the smaller, younger fish - makes a huge difference in the eating quality - and since they usually live a long time - less mercury and other toxins.

Not sure where to start today.

...Could be the guy launching at Cheanuh this morning with 6 boats lined up behind him while he was waiting for the side of the ramp that he "prefers"

... or the converted troller out there that seems to think the right of way is based on the size of your boat.

... or the guy at the dock unloading the wild coho from his boat and told me... "ya, they were hooked real bad"
... or....
I could go on...

LOL!
