Alberta deer populations could drop due to Chronic Wasting Disease​

“One of the big concerns about the travel of it to the west is we’re getting very close to the national parks and of course, it’s going to be a real issue if it gets into the national parks,” said Rudyk. “Right now we’ve had Alberta cases in mule deer, whitetail moose and elk. If it gets into the national parks, we could see transfer that also into the caribou, which is already a pretty precarious population to begin with.”

Alberta has been monitoring for CWD since 1998 and found the first case in southeastern Alberta in 2005.

They opened up more mule deer draws in the eastern part of the province to try and slow the process. The days of seeing a heard of deer out in the fields graving are gone the population has been getting hammered for years now. Maybe just maybe there is a lesson here it all started on game farms in Saskatchewan and spread from there. Is there a similar type connection to Fish farms on the West Coast?????
