CutPlug In A Jughead?

Anybody tried this yet?

Inside of the Jughead looks like it would take an angled cutplug....

Could epoxy a couple of boogly eyes on the outside of the jughead....?....?

What would be the point of cutting a plug?

The teaser head does the work.

I can't wait to try a Herring with a hootchie then inserting it into the teaser head it but it'll have to be a certain situation since I rarely have unbrined Herring,

Ya.. Definitely can't use brined bait. I tried with a well brined/stiff herring and anchovy last summer and wasn't impressed.

A fresh caught mackerel would probably do wonders in a jughead for Hali and probably even salmon.

DogBreath:-

The point would be "presentation" and "looks".

Sometimes when you fit a whole herring or anchovy in any teaser head it is a sloppy fit at best.

Just thinking if it was cut to the angle that is inside the Jughead it would be a pretty clean "fit", would hold well...and would have a pretty good "look" to it.

"Action" might be better or not...I don't know.

This requires the bait to be cut to fit the slope inside an old tomic. It works, but requires a bait check on missed hits of course.

Is that the basic idea behind a jughead? Can I buy jugheads, I have read alot about them but never seen one

I have been using something similar to the jughead for years. Its not a cut up plug, but an actual teaser head. I also wanted to try the jughead, but cant find them. I know somebody who ordered one and could not get it to work. I don't think anything will come of the jughead. My friend keeps hounding me to start producing my teaser head, but its a big undertaking.

Cap Party Marty:-

The Jughead is made by "FishWhisperer" who posts on this site. he lives on V.I. in Nanoose.
He was making Jugheads at home with molds he developed.
He sold quite a few.....but the home molds went Kaput and he was looking to get them factory produced.
Since then I don't know what has happened.
He has videos on YouTube of them working in the chuck. And they looked pretty good.
Fresh bait would be a better option than brined in them, as you would get more "wiggle".

There are various setups they are capable of.

I just thought a cutplug inside them might work pretty good. An "unbrined" cutplug that is.....

Tubber:- I always had it in the back of my mind to try that Tomic thing but never got around to it.

There used to be a similar rig back years ago called a "Nosky's Killer" thsat took strip but not a cutplug.

So it actually works,eh? Guess I'll be butchering some old plugs after supper tonight......

Just drill a toothpick sized hole through both sides in one pass close to the cut end. You can't cut it as close to the front as you might think as there is a sloping piece of plastic in there. Pilchards (from Portugal via Kelowna Walmart) worked well because their bodies are rounder than a herring, and anchovies are too small for a 6" plug. I would only use a garage sale cheap plug Also, I only fished it in Ukee and everything works there usually.

I would try a double snell in place of the single hook. Get that trail hook out there for the tail biters. Rig it like a Rhys Davis, but it cant be tight. If it is it will just roll like a regular teaser. You should get that wiggle action with a treble hook in it as long as theres a teensy weency bit of slack. Too much and you'll lose your hook (rip up your bait). Im guessing a plug really wiggles well in this scenario. I hate missing those tail biters.

Or better yet, get rid of the metal and use the existing hole in the front (top one). Poke a toothpick end in the hole to adjust tension, leave some slack and hook in the treble of your double snell. Its just my personal preference,, but I do like a trailer (red) with anchovy/herring.
