Trying to understand the current closure in Saanich inlet. I was going to do some prawning today and maybe jig for lings... Pasted below.

"In a portion of Sub-area 19-8: Those waters of Saanich Inlet inside a line from Whiskey Point to Verdier Point are closed to fishing for all finfish, from September 15 to November 30.

Sub-area 19-12, Saanich Inlet: Those waters of Finlayson Arm southerly of a line drawn true east from Christmas Point to the opposite shore are closed to fishing for all finfish, from September 1 to November 30."

What is concidered inside a line from Whiskey to Verdier? Can you fish lings in the inlet?

Thanks,

Yup. I understand that. Just not sure of the closed area. As I read it "inside" would be the shore side of a line between those 2 points. That is a small area around Mill Bay. The rest of the inlet is open?
A friend had told me to check before I went as he believed the whole inlet to be closed.

Follow this link and I believe the map covering Cowichan to Victoria will give you your answers.

Whiskey to Verdier is the Bay in front of Mill Bay, and is closed. The rest of Saanich Inlet, except for the area in front of Brentwood Bay and around Christmas Point is open for all but Chinook retention.
You're ok for lings (except in rockfish conservation areas, of course).
