You can reduce the cooking water for crabs to a few inches in the pot. Toss in a handfull of salt,( or use sea water) bring to a rolling boil. Pile the crab ( cleaned, if you are at home residence .... otherwise stun them with a blow to the abdomen. The shell must remain attached until you are home ) and return to a boil. The crabs will steam in about the time it takes to get a whole pot of water to re-boil.
