Covid/winter the forums (hbc and this one) good to have. Thinking about posts here on this GOF thought I would float one out there. Last few years I have taken to bringing a metal detector along for shore breaks or when I hike in along rivers, creeks etc. Just ads another bit of very interesting side line for a break while fishing. BC is an incredibly historic area from pirates, rum runners to just folk. Most all of the coast where harbours and creeks intersected trading occured. The sea otter trade for example went from late 1700's to the early 1800's (Brits, Spanish, Russian, American and FNs). Currency of trade was silver and gold coin. The value of that trade has been estimated in the millions. Sea otter pelts ended up in Asia. Cults and their cash were legendary on the gulf islands... buried hoards in the bush because there were no banks ... lost, forgotten or accidents mean still out there. I have found gold earrings, rings, some jewellery over the years... enough to pay for my very advanced detector. The detector I have telescopes down to easy carry in a back pack. Anyway just some thought while the snow piles up today aboard my boat in the harbour.....
