Cleaning My Canvas Top

My boat canvas needs cleaning badly. It's dirty with a green buildup in areas. Any suggestions on the best way to do it without damaging the canvas? Is there a preferred cleaning product I should use? Also, after cleaning, should I try and waterproof it and if so, what should I use?

Thanks for for the advise,

Most modern boat canvas is acrylic made buy Sunbrella and is cleaned using a mild soap or nondetergent cleaner like woolite or ivory. After cleaning spray on 303 Fabric Guard for UV block/waterproofing (Campion and Double Eagle boats use acrylic canvas). Vinyl canvas can be cleaned the same way and you can use silicon base sprays to waterproof. Don't use a silicon spray on acrylic canvas - if not sure use 303 Fabric Guard.

I just take mine to the laundomat. Toss it in a king size washer with some mild cleaner like ivory and run through. Spin finnish. Don't put in dryer. Then install and let dry.West marine sell a house brand protectant for use on Sunbrell.Works good.
