Clam digger

any body here use a "clam gun" or "tube" for digging clams? Watched a few videoes on you tube and think I'm going to build one. Mostly because I can more than I dig clams. Anyone know the length the main "gun " piece should be? Videoes show anything from about a foot to about 3 feet.

I used to pump sand shrimp in white rock for steelhead bait. Pump should be relatively the same. I think I used 2.5" abs with a test plug as a plunger with the inside stem being 1.5"pvc. I used a rigid cordless drill handle as well which worked great. But by the time you buy pipe, glue, fittings and your time to build it factored in your almost better off to buy one online...

edit, Clint, I just noticed it was you asking. Yea I'd say go for it if your going to weld one up.
The adjustable plumbing test plugs work great for making a seal while still being able to get some movement.

Like steelydan said, use one for ghost shrimp long time ago. It was about 3" dia. and 2' long.

Just an fyi as well. I believe it is illegal. That why ever one was getting tickets in white rock, then they started to do it at night which forced enforcement to record in night vision. Clamming with a mechanical device........?

i think the mechanical part would mean a sluice like device.. or excavator ! lol

The tastiest clams are only 2-3" below the surface. No pump or shovel needed, just a three-prong single hand garden cultivator. $7 at Home Cheapo.
