Tried the suspension today in 1-2ft chop and methinks for the price you can't go wrong with this product, pretty happy with it.
Had some fun installing it, make sure you have a nicely reinforced base, in your case brian your under seat storage should be strong enough.
Trial went ok until I hit a damn log at 50km/hr ouch!
good luck

Thanks-- I will be getting at it after I get my GPS problem fixed.

Was the log hurt??? :D

Cheers

Hey Gypseas,

I took a look at that seat on eBay and it looks like it might be a good option. I had some concern about the mounting hardware rusting so contacted the eBay seller. He has indicated that the mounting components are made of painted metal so you'll want to make sure you stay on top of any scratches and keep them protected.

True it is all steel and the springs are not even painted, but considering you can buy the same setup for twice the $$ at 120 delivered it's not bad.

And the log is ok
you betcha

I looked around for any reviews on the Garelick one and never found any. They look interesting but I wonder how well they work and will they hold up to a beating?? Anyone else find any actual reviews??

In case anyone was considering buying the Garelick's, I found these on Ebay for $79.99 each. Cheapest I've found.

You might also check these out. Some of the guides in Ucluelet are using them and they have them at Pioneer Boat Works for, I think something like $279.

Those look nice but spendy, $500-$600 for a pair. The reviews I found look good too:

Tempress Reflex™ DST Boat Seats, July 16, 2009
By KetchenElle from Hemlock, Mich

"Very comfortable and does a great job of smoothing out the bumps. I fish mostly on Lake Huron and it can get pretty nasty at times.
Only problem I have had was getting a pedestal that was short enough. I had to cut down a 6" to about 3 1/2" to be comfortable under the steering wheel. The original post with the stock seat was 8 1/2"."

Excellent ride with this seat, September 8, 2008
By salmonnut from Fort Bragg, CA

"Ocean fishing is now comfortable. These seats take the waves, cushioning you so you hardly feel them. I've only had them for a month or so, so do not know about durability yet.
I bought one & tried it out, after 1 trip I ordered the 2nd seat for my passenger. He like his too..."

I have something similar in my boat, it's the Centric SAS seat, I paid around $330 USD each and getting them here without damage was very difficult. The seats are OK but not nearly worth the money, they do absorb the minor bumps but don't soak up nearly as much as I'd hoped for.

Next step for me is a full suspension mount for these seats. The only problem I've seen is that cheaper ones will rust a lot (lots bare or painted metal, exposed springs etc.) full suspension bases with air shock dampners are about $500 each (used in industrial equipment like Cats etc.).

Tough to figure out how much Advil I could buy for what I'll have into the seats when I'm done.

So I ended up getting one of these suspension seats that Gypseas posted.
My seat is inside the pilothouse so I don't expect it to get direct salt spray.

Here is a pic of just the base mounted without the seat back:

I found that my existing folding seat could be slightly modified
by bolting a base onto the bottom of it so that I could mount it
to the suspension base. My existing seat is more comfortable than
the hard plastic one that ships:

I'll get a chance to try this new seat out later today
after I finish the mounting hardware. Thanks for posting
the idea. The eBay seller was a great guy to deal with.
The purchase arrived 2 days after I paid for it -- he shipped
me the wrong seat colour, and refunded $40 off my purchase
for the mistake, so it ended up costing me $70.
