Charters Interpretive Center Vandalism

Just found out this morning that last night the center and hatchery were targeted by person (s) with a beef against the CRD. The building was sprayed with blue paint with the F bomb used against the CRD and a window smashed. Pisses me off that some of the money we raised with the seminars will be used to repair damage instead of going to intended projects. Those involved are idiots not only for their actions but for attacking a non-profit society who are doing good work.

Crap, sorry to here that.
Hope you get the info into the papers as peer pressure might stop it the next time.

Rollie, let's get in touch Tuesday and we will take care of the damage. Give me a call at work if I blank. I have guys up that way anywho.

It's a shame some people still think that kind of action gets the right attention.
But big kudos to you Shep, for taking on the repairs. Outstanding! Thanks.

I am sure insurance will cover it but still a damn shame..

It's a nice place..

I'll offer a hand if needed.......

Thanks for the offers guys. I'll be in touch with the work crew and see what their plans are and go from there. I know Ray Vowles found the damage and he has already worked at getting the paint off the building. The RCMP and the local paper are involved. Hopefully the story in the paper educates the few knuckleheads that we have nothing do to with any gov agency.

Shepnoir aka Perma Construction have already looked at the damage and are offering to pick up the tab to replace the smashed front window and to try and remove the oil based spray paint. The problem with the paint is that they sprayed along the entire front facade of the building which is clear oiled cedar planks. We can't use any chemicals to remove the paint without effecting the cedar and leaving a noticeable blemish line across the entire building. Shepnoir is going to try and remove it with a wire brush/drill. If that doesn't work we will have to remove the siding from the entire front of the building, flip the boards to expose the rear of the planks, then re-oil them again. A potential time consuming job, prying off all the planks and not damaging them.

Kudos and a big call out to Shepnoir and Perma Construction .

Awesome stuff:).

Kudos Shepnoir.

I hope that the media knows about Shepnoir and his company - people should hear the good side of the story too, and Shepnoir deserves the publicity.

I am very sorry to hear this news Rollie. Maybe it is time to install a few security cameras - especially if you think it could happen again. Don't let this discourage you and the others from the great work you are doing it is very appreciated and needed! Please let me know if I can help out in any way.

Shep.... let me know if you guys can use an extra set of hands

We just received a grant that will allow us to purchase camera's which will double duty between security and viewing of wildlife/fish on site to be displayed on a monitor in the centre. We are also looking at finding an affordable building to erect for an on site caretaker. Our funds at this time are limited and the building that would work best at blending in with the existing buildings is over our budget at the time. The society has made it a priority but on hand funds are making it a challenge.

Thank you to Profisher and all of you who volunteer to keep this going and to Shepnoir and all the other corporate sponsors who do this for the right reasons. You are all inspirations and your tireless work and donations need to be applauded.

Sorry to hear about the vandalism at Chartes Creek Interpretive center .. it makes no sense, hopefully it's misguided youth & not someone with a personal axe to grind.Anger is the 1st reaction - how these morons try to spoil all this hard work, after countless hours of volunteers time and donations from caring citizens.Sad to say this has become far to commen of a problem in todays society.
A special hats off to Shep, his company and the rest of you guys for offering to pitch in help!

Many of us think this is an attack coming an upset off roader who has lost it over the CRD not allowing access to the back roads and trails to any vehicles in the Sooke hills. A CRD building was hit around the same time with the same f-bomb message. Our building is on CRD land.
