I believe those north van rednecks are correct. If the magazine is designed for a handgun and holds 10 rounds it can be used in a rifle as such. Magazine restrictions are determined by the firearm they were designed for and can be used in any firearm. The law does not state that an unrestricted semiautomatic rifle can only hold 5 rounds but that magazines built for a semiautomatic rifle can only hold 5 rounds.

RCMP are not lawyers nor judges and can't be expected to know every law. If you are going to be doing something that is in a grey area like this, I would suggest carrying the associated RCMP bulletin with you.
