Campbell River - Ling Cod

We will be at Salmon Point Resort, just south of Campbell River for most of August and have always fished for salmon. Know the main spots. We have caught ling cod before but always as by-catch and usually too small to keep. Some of my son-in-laws friends are coming out and would really like to catch and keep a ling cod. Would anybody please provide suggestions as to where we could target ling cod?

There's a couple reefs straight out from you at Salmon Pt. About a 10-15km run. My old man and Papa have fished Grant's Reef which is also good for Lings. South of Mitlenatch Isl (which is an RCA), so check the regs and make sure you're south enough. You could also make a day trip and head north, launch and Brown's Bay, and make a run up north of Quadra. There's lots of good spots up there and you're further away from the masses. Have done best lately with a Big Eye Jig's and something smelly on it.

I found a spot about 30 minutes or so north of Browns and in sure there are others that produce well too. A couple weeks ago we got several keepers and a half dozen gently released almost keepers. Look for structure on the bottom. I normally start on a point or some shallow structure on my GPS and start at 30 feet and work deeper until I get past the rockfish

In year's past i have caught they deep at the Lighthouse. They can be caught well off the bottom.

Thanks for all your replies, the group was lucky and we caught 3 large rockfish ad 1 reasonable ling cod. The guys were really excited. We fish near Sentry Shoals (south of the RCA), both the north end and the south end and were successful at both spots. Had one rockfish for supper, boy was it good.
