BYE-BYE Baja

Time has come to close the Los Barriles Casa and head home! Great winter in a new home with lots of work and not as much fishing as I wanted. On reflection I managed to get a 15 ft alum. centre consul with 40 Zuke running and fishing well after it was left for 8 years. Finally completed a 3 room self-contained apt for family and friends and occaisional rental. Got a few marlin but last week got out to Bahia de los Suenos for 6 hrs of guided yellowtail fishing. There are guides and there are guides and finally I got a good one. LaLo knew his business from bridleing the bait to trying to talk me out of using my Pirates Den LED's (didn't succed). Tough to find bait but he hung in there till we got what we needed-others passed us by-they would pay later. We were in 250 to 300 ft of water off of the east side of Cerralvos island-using -40 lb fluorocarbon leaders and 8 oz centre hole sinkers-I also had a double flash PD LED light us above the swivel about 5 ft from the bait. Great day-amazing fight-unbelievably strong-I'm bringing a fighting belt next year!! My partner and I landed 5 from a 24 ft Panga-total cost for the boat and tip was 100$-each- That's a 50$ tip and we were happy because one of the yellowtail was 50 lbs-LaLo was happy cause he got some PD LED's and became a believer. Finished up with too many Margarita's and Nacho's before an hours drive home-absolutly great way to end a Baja Winter. Now thanks to FA I have a ton of fresh bait to start the BC season with.

Travel Safe Mike, I just drove up last week. The road was in great shape, still a few places that make you grip the wheel a bit tighter than others but overall a great trip. Crossed at Tecate, not more than 20 mins including secondary and we were on our way. I really need to get over and see you next year, whether for a fishing trip or a cocktail.

Travel safe.

Nice fish!

I think those are Yellow Tail Amberjack. Correct?

In new Zealand these are known as Kingfish(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowtail_kingfish#Yellowtail_kingfish). Such powerful fish and amazing eating. I got taken freedive spearfishing for them in NZ; quite intense.

I am no authority but I think you are basically correct-they are a member of the Jack family but down here there is another fish called Ambejack-looks similiar-same family but slightly different. Thanks for all the well-wishes guys-my daughter and 2 kids are in the new apt. and can't get over the area and beach. It ain't Cabo(thank God). Putting the boat to bed-play tour guide this week and on the road. I have an empty 1 ton heading up the I-5-if you need something-I am stopping in eugene for a day-pm me and I'll see what I can do.
