So I bought a tiny boat and and want to try and catch a few fish. Are their salmon out between English bay and Jericho out near tankers, again small boat and can't go out to far. do I need a 6 dollar salmon tag for every salmon caught. How deep in the water are salmon and what do they feed on. Thanks for any feedback.

your 6 dollar salmon tag is good for the season, 30 is your season limit for chinooks, lots of interesting reading on what salmon feed on here on this forum, EI, needle fish, herring, pilchards, you need to read up on the several species of salmon, pink, chum, sockeye, coho, chinooks, All have different feeding habits and regulations are different for different area's, make sure you have tidal sport fishing regulations and know what area you are fishing and what regulation pertain to that area, barbless hooks are mandatory for fishing for salmon. hope that helps a little bit and the best way to get to know more about it is go out with someone in the KNOW..weather it be a guide or knowledgeable fisherman in your area, also be careful in that small boat as stated here before the ocean is a cruel ***** that wants to kill you..you need to take fishing seriously with small boats as weather can change in a heartbeat, don't become a statistic.question everything..

Yes there are fish out there but more later into July-the best place for a small boater to fish locally is the West Van waterfront or tacking between the Red Can off Spanish Banks and the radar pilings further east don't go too shallow.

It would help if you have downrigger if not learn to use a Deep Six or a slip weight and try to get your gear down to at least 40'.

Salmon feed on whatever they want usually small (4"-6") baitfish a few smaller shiny spoons usually do the trick.

There's tonnes of info on this here do some searching.

Hey thank you both for your replies, Much appreciated, I'm gonna do some more reading and go catch myself some fish, I'll try my best not to let the ocean eat me
