I will have to weld on some mounting brackets(2" angle steel) to screw to the floor but to date I have had little success rust proofing steel. I am looking for advice on this for this metal will be on the floor and subject to salt exposure.

Any advice on how to rust proof steel would be greatly appreciated.

nice seats, galvanize them. i bought some tractor seats from princess auto and if i like them, this winter i will take them apart and have the pieces galvanized

why not use aluminum angle and through bolt to your base then screw to your floor

what abl said or use stainless angle... ? should be able to find some small pieces cheap at any metal salvage yard. I'd go alum or stainless before using mild steel....
shouldn't be any prob welding stainless angle to the mild steel frame of the bostrom seat if that's the method you prefer to use... but I would think abl's method of making some small clips to attatch the chair to the angles by throughbolting (stainless bolts) might be a better method and avoid the welding altogether...
if you have to use mild steel I have a friend that does auto restoration that swears by this stuff. I haven't used it myself...

This does sound good but isn't mixing metals a problem where the aluminum will cause the suspension metal to be subject to rusting?

I would make a piece of HDPE, and get it water jet cut for your base to isolate the materials. You don't need a massively thick piece. That way you isolate the metals. Do not put stainless on aluminum your asking for trouble. You can galvanize that piece if you want. Did you talk to Sculpin how his boat is done, and how its held up? On all your fasteners use ship to shore marine grease etc. and use nylon washers to isolate the fasteners.

I did send a shout to to sculps about his seats. He's a busy guy these days!

I ended up using aluminum for it is just so much easier for me to fabricate. I insulated it from the steel the best I could by using nylon washers and putting a layer of sicaflex between the two mediums which I did not totally tighten until being left over night.
Installed one of the seats last night and took the boat for a rip. They are certainly a deluxe ride where the quick adjust meant will be nice for different drivers but also for adjusting for different conditions. One problem I see is that there is only one shock and it is place to the left of the mechanism. When the shock is sett stiff I can feel the torque from the resistance being on the one side of the suspension. Fortunately there is structure in the suspension to place another shock to stop this twist and I will be contacting the manufacturer about this this morning.
