Wondering how the area is? My dad mentioned it since I asked if he wanted to go out fishing with me? Just looking for some recent info on the area.... dont think he's been in the area in well over a decade.

Closed. No chinook retention until October 15th. Nice area for a boat ride though.

I am new to Boating/ Fishing Etc. Bought my first boat with a friend earlier in May.... Got her up and running in 3 Weeks & been enjoying it ever since. Problem is along with everything else, the Rules, closures, area's & dates are hard to be sure if say you have 10 - 15 min before heading out to know all the information necessary to abide by all the laws. I would like to do it legally, but the last time we went out, I find out after I was in a RCA area where I caught my Giant Ling, & I dropped crab & prawn traps in closure areas. So after all the research this week I have determined the best available area's to go are (Thrasher Rock, Inside of Polier, maybe around Galliano, & Fingers to Neck Point.

Love the honesty! And I agree the regs are a huge pain to keep up with. Best to get to he buddies with people who have fished the areas for a long time

And that is Sage advice.
It wouldn't be worth the trouble of getting nailed and then you also carry the "poacher burden".

10 Pages of paper layed out on the table, then a review of the latest posted closures, emergency closures, & your left with a few lousy area's & remote distances to travel to more lousy area's.
Meh enough with the complaining for now.

Just wish all the usefull information I needed was either easier to locate, or all in one place. Almost need to post a tutorial on where to get and links to get there.... then use multiple pages to cross examine so that u can understand.

Like Print off area map you wish to fish,
Then Locate the (Map: 2012 - 2013 Coho and Chinook openings for Areas 18, 19, 20 and Subareas 29-4 and 29-5, Cowichan to Victoria [PDF])
Then Review the posted, closure area's & emergency closures on the printed map.
Then if there is any territory within your range left to fish....

Took some time, research & a detailed understanding for a newb like me to feel comfortable going out & knowing with confidence I wont be breaking a law or three I wasnt aware of.
