I agree looks like a K&C , that tan colour was carried through from when they were Kencrafts , anyone remember them ?

AL

Thats a K&C,couple of my friends still have them,if you look from the back the sides curve in towards the center at the top.I remember the Kencrafts, actually saw one moored at Renfrew last year.DAN

Thanks, it is posted for sale in the Okanagan. Early 90's Merc 60hp and old trailer $2000.00 obo. Are these hulls as good as the old Hourstons and Double Eagles?

yup k&c, had one just like that. I had an early 80's 17' with a penta volvo ([B)]) and the hull its self was very strong and quite heavy, never had a hourston or double eagle but i would compare it to a double eagle for sure

They are a tough old boat, the sides on them are nice and high, when you say as good as a Hourston or Double Eagle do you mean as durable, or a rough water boat?DAN

Dan, to be honest, I think I'd feel safer in big water in my 11 fott Whaler than a 16 foot runabout just because I have poaked my head out of Bamfield and Nootka a few times and been wet but stable. I'm talking about durability and the likelihood of rotten stringers and transom. Also need something bigger to fit my wife and dog (in no particular order.

I have a 16' K&C , and would say they are not as heavy as Double eagle
or Hourston, not as much glass in them.
Also my hull is a modified "V', not as deep as the latter.

Can't help you on the quality of the construction, never seen one apart.Although a friend of mine had one about 20 years ago and beat the crap out of it,eventually punched a hole through the bottom.I would never abuse a boat like that.LastChance had some good sugestions about tapping on the transom and stringers and listening for the sound to change. He seems to know what to look for from the outside.DAN

I had a 17&1/2 K&C "Saturn" hull converted to a center console. Fantastic hull design. I wish I still had that boat, but the guy who did the conversion failed to put proper drain ports in the floor and the stringers rotted out. I had an old guy in Duncan do some glass work on it for me. He worked for K&C when they were built in Duncan.
