Boat Hunting Tip

Spring is coming and a lot of people will be looking so here's a search tip for looking on Crigslist and EBay.

Open your Google search engine (which is what I use) and enter the name of the boat manufacturer and craigslist

Do the search and one of the first few sites to be listed will be something called "site mash" operated by www.jaxed.com, and this will give you all the listings, Canadian and American, for that manufacturer currently listed on Craigslist and EBay.

But it seems that it only works with the American manufacturers. Doesn't include local outfits like Double Eagle. Once you have accessed the site, where the boat manufacturers name is listed, a scroll down box listing boat manufacturers can be opened. Click on a name, and then the search button and you get all those listings.

It doesn't appear to work by accessing through the jaxed site. The above route is the only way I have figured how to use it.

Good for comparing prices and dreaming.
Good hunting.

Very good GLG.
Much easier.
I must be starting to suffer from tunnel vision, didn't even notice all the buttons on the left of the screen.

good one!

You can also type in google:
search term site:craigslist.org
search term site:craigslist.ca

[top one USA, bottom one Canada]

However, this is lagged a few hours, until google visits the craigslist site again to reindex. For instantaneous results, you can also set the Live Bookmark(RSS feed) in Mozilla Firefox, if you use that browser.

For the best deals in craigslist, if you're not the first caller, you don't get it. Online listings like CL or usedvictoria show only what has not sold...the good ones are gone in an hour.

On another note...have had some difficulty in buying craigslist from afar, because of all the scams people are very paranoid to sell to you and ship. Plus there's the danger of them ripping you off. I found this service that seems legit, safefunds.com. However, sellers are also warned about escrow services too...so how to make remote purchases without seeming like a scammer or without getting scammed?

Below is what i wrote to a "too good to be true" vendor that I was pretty sure was scamming:

"I have investigated safefunds.com as a way to protect each other and I think this would be a good idea. I recommend you give them a call at 1-888-565-4187 to better understand the service they offer (and seach them in google for positive reviews). I would be happy to pay their fee ($28). In effect, they provide a similar assurance to an ebay/paypal purchase, so you're assured the payment is real and I'm assured the product ships and is what you say it is."

PS a little more research on my question above. Paypal guarantees all ebay purchases, so could also ask them to list on Ebay as "buy it now", which costs you about 5% or so. However, may be a hassle...and if they list it on ebay, maybe want to sell it on ebay and get more than you are offering. Paypal has a dispute resolution system for non-ebay purchases, but it is quite limited.

Thank you gentlemen. I am currently boat shopping and this makes it a lot easier.

A while back I e-mailed Jaxed and asked them to add a few boat makers to their list and they added it within a day. It is a great site.
