boat hook

i have a 3 piece boat hook and one section will lock in the extended position but will not lock in the closed position. Anyone know a remedy? I have spun it around and wet it and heated it and it still refuses to lock when closed.

Mine is doing the same thing, stupid piece of crap. Thinking I'm just going to make it one length and wrap it with black tape.

I've had that problem with both 2 and 3 piece hooks. I've found that sideways pressure on the extended piece with tightening usually works. Kind of a pain if your in a hurry to use it.
