Ladysmith RCMP believe alcohol to be a factor in a late-night boating crash Saturday that left one man with cuts to the arm and head.
Just after midnight, police and the Coast Guard responded to a mayday signal from Ladysmith Harbour. A 17-foot bowrider speedboat, with four grown men aboard, and a 32-foot sailboat, with two adults aboard, had collided.
The driver of the speed boat suffered major cuts to his head and forearm and received medical treatment on the Government wharf. Two of the other men on the speed boat had minor injuries. The speedboat’s windshield was damaged.
No one aboard the sailboat was hurt and the vessel was not damaged.
Ladysmith RCMP are investigating charges of impaired operation of a motor vessel.
