Boat build idea rear house?

Hey guys

Looking at having A boat build forme this will be the first time ihsve ever worked with a builder on a custom boat. Look for something for camping and fishing on the the it interior lakes and the ocean. I have always wanted a boat with a rear house so that you would always be looking forward with the downriggers right infront of you. Also it seems to me the ride is always better in the back but yes you would lose a little of your vison this would have to be kept in mind on the build and design. I working closely with a boat builder in northern Washington called TYLER BOATS. The owner Cory is a commercial fisherman and builds mostly commercial boats but is looking at building some custom builds for the sport fishing. We are looking at building a 21' by 8'5" catamatan with a rear house you could walk around. The beauty of the cat is I would not need a ton of power and I would run twin Suzuki 90 or even less? Has anyone on here fished from a bow picker or landing craft and if so any ideas or thoughts would be great.

Thanks
Jac

My immediate concern is forward downriggers, it leaves a lot more opportunity for tangles with propellers.

I think it's a great idea well worth trying. I have an old Campbell River style Whaler with a tiller. Vision is compromised from the stern while getting up on plane and if you pile a cooler on the bow. I don't know how far back your helm will be and if you'll be standing or sitting while steering at speed. I would put the riggers ahead of midships, 60'' out and with 20lb balls it shouldn't be a problem. The new ones can lift the bigger balls. A 2nd helm would be good. And quality exposure suits for the wetter ride.

The riggers would be mounted about 3/4 the way up the hull I run 15lbs balls. I will be putting a full hardtop with a door in the middle of the cabin. The helm will be close to mid ship of the boat the cabin will be 6'5" wide and it will be 8' long. The cabin will have 2 bunk beds in the rear then a small cabinet ion each side behind the seats. On the one side I will put in a small galley. There will be a full 7wide by 8 long foot fishing deck forward so lots if fishing space. There will be outside rails around the house and about 11" walk around each side of the house. At the rear there will be 30" platform with a dive ladder in the center of the 2 outboards.

Hambone yes this is similar to what I'm having built. I signed the contrat last week and it's well under way. My boat will not be the landing craft and it will be a catamaran with a rear house you can walk around. I have some of the paper drawings of the hull. Once I scan them online I will start a new thread and post pics of the build. The nice thing with Tyler boats is they let me be really involved I speak with him everyday right now and get to put all my ideas and things that I want on the boat. I will be running twin Suzuki 90 on this cat so it should go pretty good.

Looking forward to some pictures JAC.... it sounds like an awesome idea. The fishing part has me a little bit confused, but only because I like to turn really sharp when fishing close to kelp/structure. On a different note, how did you like the stabicraft??

My downriggers will be mounted 15 feet infront of my motors so I don't think sharp turns will be an issue. Also I have asked that there will be nothing sharp on the outside of the hull so if my line does touch it should not be an issue. I always liked how smooth the rear of the boat was in the rough stuff so why not put you helm there. Also looking forward at your gear the whole time is something I always thought about and wanted. My stabicraft was really really good but it was to narrow and the bed was less that 6 feet long. They have a plexi windscreen which I hated so much that why I sold the boat. I have always wanted a hardtop so that what I'm getting now. So far I can say enough good thi gs about Tyler boats I have been able to give my 2 cents n pretty much everything first class customer service

Can't wait to see the pics of this build Jac... sounds like you've gone outside the box on this one. Should make for a nice stable platform thats for sure.
