Bluefin in PEI

Thanks for sharing those pix, Cuba. They're truly an amazing fish. Nice to see they're regulated in P.E.I., even in a "sports fishery"

I once played a Blue Fin estimated at 750 # +/- Unfortunately for me (with the exception of seeing something that big jump out of the water and fall back in which was totally amazing) it wasn't a pleasurable experience ---there was a chair and it was rigged up for someone way larger then me so I couldn't brace with my legs when the fish sounded. I cooked under a hot sun while people screamed at me too to reel (while the fish was peeling line like a freight train)

We finally got it to the boat but while the deck guy was "leadering" it the helmsman let the boat drift over the fish and "ping", it was gone....

Of course the deck guys saw it as a $ 25,000 pay-day down the drain because i didn't get it in "fast enough" (it would have been iced and flown straight to Tsukiji Market in Tokyo if we'd gotten it on deck)

I barely made it across the parking lot of my motel. Felt like I'd been hit by a truck. Now I understand why that guy in Ifish who produced those pictures from his P.E.I. trip said he "trained" for that trip.

If you really want to get the blood pumping, check out the YouTube vids where they're chumming then up to the stern of the boat with mackerel, then dropping a baited hook into the chum line.
