Hey all!
Another season is upon us and by the sounds of this year’s forecast for the Vancouver Islands west coast salmon stocks, we are in for yet, another stellar ride on the grounds.:)
Forecasts for our southern neighbors systems are monumental to say the least; we anticipate huge returns to the Ucluelet area. Coupled with the ongoing efforts to bring our local stocks back into shape, opportunities for those multiple fish days will be numerous.
The crew at Big Bear Salmon Charters are working hard getting the operation up and running. This year we’ve added a new “Bear” to the fleet, another Grady White 282 sailfish is on its way to our private dock to bring the total to 3 Grady 282’s. In addition to this we’ve added some top notch “Rods” to ensure a trip of a lifetime here in “Ukee”
The boys have been out washing the gear with some great results so far. The number of above average size salmon looks great with our early season fishery. Our guides are averaging 3-5 fish per day with more on some occasions. It has been right at our door step and we expect it to last well into May as the migratory fish begin to move in and start fattening up on the huge bio-mass of bait fish.
Give us a call for an updated report, to inquire about our early season specials from now till June or to find out if there is room to “buddy up” with someone to help spread the costs around.

Well folks, the fishing has been showing some good results. Between Monday and Tuesday we landed a total of 8 springs with the largest coming in at 18lbs , and a half dozen Ling's. Not stellar numbers but good considering we only spent two hours on the water . We are looking forward to a great season as the fish start to arrive in larger numbers soon.
If you find yourself in Ucluelet, stop by and say hi! Were located in the Whiskey Landing in beautiful Ucluelet BC.

Here's a nice little feeder!

Hey all,
After a couple of days of strong wind & heavy sea’s the crew at Big Bear are back out shaking things up. You don’t have to travel far as we are finding generous limits of feeder’s right at the harbours mouth. All the regular tricks are working, 4” coyotes in the metallic blue/silver, as well as the cop car are producing well. The anchovy in the purple haze and chartreuse teasers have been consistent at depths of 70-100 feet. Halibut fishing is to excellent right now with fish in the 20-50 lb. range hitting the dock regularly. Extra-large herring as well as the 8” grub from Berkley in white and glow.
