Big and Little Q

Haven't fished either yet........but my gut feeling tells me that although they might not be going up the rivers yet, they could very well be starting to hang around there in deeper water.....say farther out front in 200 to 250ft of water etc.

I went for a look at the pool at Big Q this morning to see if there were any fish in there, I saw none. When I see fish there, that's my indicator to tell me its go time.

Very few boats working the Big Q last night and most left early. So... Maybe a tad early yet.

In the past guys have caught fish around these rivers as early as mid-July.......true, they weren't going up the river yet, but they were hanging around in the surrounding areas in deeper water.

Just read on another site that a guy picked up a 15lb'er off Little Q trolling a Purple Haze hooch at 75 to 90ft.

These fish have been hiding around flora rocks for a couple of weeks now sometimes they come down lambert channel and hangout around Norris rocks but my friends and I haven't seen any all large ones were taken at flora, my fishing calendar tells me that we didn't catch at big q until the 26th although this rain might change things last summer was really dry

Guys if you want to try something for chinook in front of the qualicum rivers give herring strip a try,a friend and i found that to be productive there in years past when chonook were very picky and just finning and milling around.

People sure are tight lipped :) Lets see some pictures guys at the very least.

We had a great week in Qualicum for our yearly fishing trip. Fishing was hot some days but steady most of the rest of the time. We fished 5 days with three guys and two boats and landed 20 springs. We had on and lost at least another 20. Purple haze hoochies and qualicum killers were the ticket for us at 50-120 feet in 60-150 feet of water. On friday the weeds moved in big time along with huge numbers of small jellies making it much harder to fish. the Bite also seemed to turn off in the afternoon but was apparently still on in the morning. Most of the fish were quite bright with a few darker ones. The highlight of the week was our friends breaking off a nice spring in the 20's on some guys downrigger, then us chasing and catching the fish which was swimming around near the surface dragging the flasher. My friend cast across the leader with a buzz bomb and I netted it after he played it in with a $10 canadian tire fishing rod. Good times
