Baja light tackle with my boy!

Was just down in southern Baja a few weeks ago and got to fish with my best buddy. We surf launched a panga(which he loved) and went just outside the break and looked for bait. Once we found the bait boils we tossed light tackle, Rapala XRaps on bail casters at the bait.

We had endless fun with multiple hooks ups on Dorado, Rooster Fish and as many Sierra as one wanted, lots of laughs and smiles from ear to ear as you can see.

Happy Dad,

Best of the holidays to everyone!

nice pics!
love to do that sometime. have always been curious what the reg and licensing are like there for gringos... esp compared to what we have here. will have to check it out sometime.

Hey bear cove, I have been wanting to take my boy down todos santos way to try our luck at surf casting. Do you think going the panga route is just way more productive? I don't mind spending all day surf casting but not sure my son would be that interested if there is limited action. I chartered earlier this year after marlin but for some reason I have this damn surf casting idea for my next trip, although I'm sure a marlin trip will be on the books too. Any info much appreciated.........and pics look awesome!

Hey guys,

To answer the licence question, SF nailed it. You do not need a licence to fish from the beach but you do from a boat. I purchase mine prior to leaving canada though the Mexican travel company I deal with! Simple stuff.

Gear n Beer, surf casting is great fun but in all my years down there I have found that it is only a early morning thing. Once the sun hits the water they seem to get smart to the gear. Also lots of times the surf is just a bit to big to cast over.

The gentleman I use is out of Pescadero, just south of TS. He beach launches at a local beach, he has the place dialled in. He is a retired elementary school teacher and just loves having the kids on his boat. He charges $200 USD for a full day. It was worth very dime for me to see the smile on my boys face.

On his Santa letter he asked to go back down and do it again.

Wicked!

Would be more than happy to pass on his contact info. He doesn't speak much English, understands some but doesn't speak a lot.

Cheers and best of the holidays to everyone!
