MAJOR Chinook Retention CHANGE in affect August 1 fellas

have a peek at the boundaries , lets all do our part and let em through..
lets not sling mud at each other of what will prob happen to em 50 miles east...

last week , there were quite a few under 77 cm ( 30.3 inches ) at Swale Pill Diplock , good mix coho too,,

edit : from a site i found , a 30 inch fish with a 18 girth , would be appx 12-13 lbs , just a guestimate ....

hv fun

Starting to look much like area 19 and 20 from March to July 19th. Only difference we don't have the offshore option.

Good time to join SVIAC as they want to put an end to all restrictions. DFO hust doesnt get it good luck up there boys .... if we dont fight now its going to continue to web out like it is now!!!

Seriously, with no restrictions on the Robertson run this year that run would never come back to anything substantial.

DFO needs to manage the 1st nations harvest better and stop the commercial netting in the river mouth.

Or maybe DFO needs to get the Americans running the Robertson creek hatchery - because DFO is doing an aweful job. The Alaskan fleet gets first crack at those springs so there is benefit to the Americans too.

In victoria the chinook fishing is better then ever but it's not Canadian fish anglers are catching - 95% American fish.

I like that idea

Here's my question does the province have the nuts to close the river which opens for bait/jigging on Aug 24? I have my doubts and even the first nations have already said they will not fish Chinook this year.

I feel the native fishery on the rivers is a huge part of the problem for many rivers. (along with many other issues)
We just need to find away to make them a huge part of the solution.

Government is quick to fund the natives and seems to have a lot more fear of them then the rest of us.
We need to be on the same team.

If we could some how get the bands to responsibly govern their fishery of the rivers then we could fund them and employ them to run some hatcheries and restoration projects.
Involving them in the production of the fish that we all wish to harvest.

There would be a benefit in this for all but a bit of a pipe dream I guess.

Tips

Agree 100% with Fishtofino.I live on the river and it's enough to make your blood boil to the carnage that goes on, especially as the DFO looks the other way.
I remember once bringing the subject up with the DFO and the reply given was "don't even go there".

That is why SVIAC is trying to work with the FN fishers as part of the coalition. DFO won't manage the FN fishery for fear of the actions that may arise, but if the FN are with us demanding more fish they will also fear them for what may arise, for not acting. I don't agree with anyone over fishing but it seems the only solution in the short term is more fish. All groups can put aside their differences and agree on that one point.

my personal thoughts here - used to always fish bait in Bam, trebles in the anchovy with often the springs taking the hooks deep. Now that it is this restriction, i am thinking of hardly using bait at all and using hardware to ensure i dont ravage any fish that i have to release...

aside from that, we can throw all the money or hatcheries we want at a problem, until everyone is on the same page with harvests and respect of a river system, it wont get us too far.
