Anyone troll flies?

I've been tying my own hootchie inserts lately using Krystal Flash and have been fairly happy with how they look. It got me to thinking about tying up some bucktails or larger patterns. Anybody trolling flies? Second question? Can anyone recommend a website that shows a step by step method to attach a stinger or trailer hook? Thanks in advance

With the huge number of coho coming this season that is a really fun diversion from the usual stuff we do. In past I've done good off shore dangling a fly in the kicker prop wash. The coho like a lot of darting action so a jerky retrieve works well. Cool thing is you can drag plugs at coho speed and double up on the action. Try it!

Try making a tube fly and slide it dowwn the leader on a tandem hook set up

I bucktail with a 5-6 wt fly rod with 12 # mono on the fly reel.I Don't run a second hook. Lots of fun with pinks and ho's. Have broken the seat a few times but I just fix her up and good to go. Rogue rod, made in USA, bought from k-mart when I was a teenager for buck tailing in CR.

yes, I troll my scaled pilchard flies all the time. I use them as substitutes for hoochies and fish them exactly the same way. they are killer on Coho.

trailer hooks are usually attached by tying a loop of material on the shank of the leading hook. you can use braid or mono, either one works. just lay alongside the hook shank and wind on with thread back to front and back. tie off, put a drop of super glue on and let it set up. make sure you use an up eye hook for the trailer otherwise the hook point will not line up with the leading hook giving you a weird engagement angle.

When the Coho are up it's a lot of fun to "skip fly", in the boat wash. We use to buy bucktails , back then they were made with polar bear and had enough material to tie three sparse skip flies. Tie like a bucktail but cut the front hook off.

Trolling bucktails with a abalone spinner shallow off the kelp beds in the winter was a fun way to catch springs at Campbell River. Don't think shallow springs are around much anymore.
