any old merc experts

SO I try to get the old girl going for some winter action and she wont start ,,, shes a 1974 65 hp merc 3cyl ...good old engine gets me there ,,

It turns over fine , I try and try , kill battey I think ,, try a couple others I had but now it wont turn over , just clicks . I touch the neg post and its hot , I think ground issue .

I have been told these engines had bad wiring

Any thought s on where to start ????
