I fished Deepwater and Plumper on the Wendnesday and the Thursday before the derby and managed only one fish. There was at least one seiner making sets well inside the bay one day and there was to be a gillnet opening on the Friday.

I'm curious to know how the fishing went during the derby... any news re this?

compared to last year both days sucked. Even sunday people were getting skunked and the average boat only got a hookup or two

Trollers been going for 30 days straight leading up to the derby. Food fishery non stop, seiners and gillnetters were more on than off and all this right on the door step of the derby grounds. How would anyone expect good fishing. Pay attention anglers, the Conservatives are targeting the BC Sportsfishing Industry. They want to privatize the entire coast. 88% to the Commercial fleet and 12% to sporty. When sporty hits his 12% quota, which will be about mid season every year, we'll be shut down, OR, the government will pay the commercial fleet using tax dollars to purchase part of the 88% commercial quota and give it back to sporty. This isn't BS, this is happening. Right now it's bottom fish(Hali's), but the salmon are dead in the crosshairs. Contact your local MLA's and demand change. John Duncan in Campbell River for starters. Let's remind him why he's there and how soon he can be removed. Sporty brings in all the money. Time for Harper to buy out the commercial liscences once and for all. We need a moratoriumn on commercial fishing to rebuild stocks. That or simply pass legislation banning commercial fishing south of Chatham Point. That fixes many woes IMO
